Traveling With Kids – Preparing Them for the First Time

Most of the grownups are excited about their first flight. The story may be different when your kids are taking their first flight. Most probably, it is going to be a daunting task for parents. You cannot guess how they are going to react. Maybe they are scared of height. Or, they want to fly like the superhero of their favorite comic. No matter whether they are scared or excited, traveling with children is not as easy as you might be thinking. It might be an adventure or a safety challenge. If your kids are flying for the first time with you, here are some tips for you.

Structure the Travel Day
Keep the schedule normal. Some people delay nap to make sure that kids will sleep on the plane. However, staying awake and overtired before the flight is not a wise move. Kids are not going to sleep on the flight. And, you are the only person who knows your kids. Only you can take care of your kids. Therefore, keep your schedule as normal as possible.

Seat for Child, Purchase or Not?
Children with age less than 2 years are lap children. You have not to pay for children when flying domestically. However, in international flights, 10% is charged. If there is an empty seat in the plan, you might be allowed to use that seat for your child. However, during peak holidays, no seat will be available. Non-mobile babies do not need a different seat. However, 12 to 24 months old kids cannot sit in your lap for long. Therefore, decide whether you should buy a seat for your child or not. Do not forget to carry the birth certificate of your kid.

Review the Baggage and Carry-On Policies
Carry-on policies of one airline will be different from policies of another airline. However, almost all airlines are generous when you are traveling with kids. For example, American ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines Inc allows a car seat and stroller to be checked free of cost. In addition to this, parents can also carry a diaper bag.

Make Sure That the Family Is Seated Together
It is not easy to get seats for the entire family together. You have to pay extra for premium seats. Therefore, make sure that your kid’s seat is next to your seat. If you cannot get, look for some other airline.

Apart from these, you should plan activities for the flight, decide on the car seat or no car seat, and hire a rental car in which you can install the car seat.
